Who We Are
By now you’re probably confused as to why I keep referring to JimmyLA as we instead of me. I’m not trying to BS you or anything, there are actually multiple people involved with this little setup of mine.
My name is James Thomas (aka Jimmy & xENo) and JimmyLA is my brain child. I’m the lead developer on almost every project with the JimmyLA name on it. I have a few people who help me — notably, Chris Welch and Shaun Fox. I bring in hired guns when needed; Chris and Shaun are always my first phone calls.
What We Do
It always starts with an idea. I look for ideas under every stone and in every crack in the sidewalk. Mentally, I categorize these ideas and when I get time I start building them.
That’s the premise of this site. It’s an umbrella under which to organize my projects. Since Chris and Shaun are involved with most of my projects, I decided to include them, too.
Between the three of us, we’re well versed in usability, design and development on many platforms. Windows, OS X, iPhone, Android, Blackberry and of course the web. If we dream it, we can build it.
How We Got Started
When I moved to Orange County, CA a few years ago, I needed a website. I was tired of my old domain and wanted to take advantage of the .la TLD (despite the fact that I live an hour south of LA). Jimmy.la was used initially for my freelance work. As soon as I started freelancing, though, I was asked to join Bryan Conzone in forming CarNinja, Inc. I readily agreed. The problem I ran into is that I still wanted to build my own sites. As such, I continued to do so.
Now that my sites are making money I decided to take the step of making this a business. Due to a few infamous ’cool business cards’ blog posts, I decided to keep Jimmy.la as my brand, and changed it to JimmyLA. Here we are. ;)
Where We’re Going
My future is so bright I need shades. The success of Skinnyr and pending success of SongScraps have enabled me to say with confidence that this organization will be around for a while in some form or another. I’m not promising anything since I’m sure CarNinja will be taking a majority of my time, but I can promise that any work you see with the JimmyLA name on it will be top notch in both design and quality.
Who said chasing dreams couldn’t be fun?
Special Thanks To…
Chris Casper for technical assistance, hosting of Skinnyr and initial design of Skinnyr.com.
